COLLAGE

A Collage is a work of formal art , primarily in the visual arts, made from an assemblage of different forms, Thus creating a new whole. The origins of collage can be traced back hundreds of years, but this technique made adramatic reappearance in the early 20 th century as an art form of novelity. The term COLLAGE derives from the French “coller” meaning “glue” .This term was coined by both Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso in the beginning of the 20th century when collage became a distinctive part of modern art . Techniques of collage were first used at the time of the invention of paper in China around 200 BC. The use of collage, however remained very limited until the 10th century in Japan, when calligraphers began to apply glued paper, using texts on surfaces , when writing thier poems.

Collage with Wood

The wood collage is a type that emerged somewhat later than paper collage. Kurt Schwritters began experimenting with wood Collages in the 1920 th after already having given up painting for paper Collages . Wood Collage usually features pieces of wood ,wood savings or scraps, assembled on a canvas or on a wooden board , Such framed , picture- like , wood relief collages after that artist takes an opportunity to explore the qualities of depth , nature colour and textural variety inherent in the material , while drawing on and taking advantage of the language , conventions and historical resonances that arise from the tradition of creating pictures to hang on walls.

Art is increasingly experimental as artists try out the new ideas such as imagination ways of applying and it fits into a scheme of colourful life relating joy and beauty . With the basic theory of wood collage , after intense experimention on wood collage the teakwood has been collected and desiged in pieces of teakwood and assembled in a shaped manner according to the drawing and assembled the elements of wood collage on the wooden board which certainly creats a new definition of wood collage and they may be honoured as “Shaped wood collage” of wood collage and it speaks the language of human emotions and communicate with the people across different social and Cultural life.

Shree Birendra Thakur , retired Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories from the Gov.of Jharkhand is rich of laudable talent. He is known far and wide for his mastery over wood collage. He has participated in multifarious seminars and craft fairs of National and International repute and has been accoladed with rewards & awards at various places. In the year 2019, Shree Thakur was awarded with the Jharkhand Ratna Award for his outstanding achievements.

His art can be seen at various reknown places. His wood collage is being viewed as milestone in art form and hence are being noticed at all public & governmental levels.
